Adam’s Peak – Sat. 11^th April 2015

Adam’s Peak is close to the Lake Highway near Pine Lake, south of Projection Bluff, but this walk will come up Warner’s Track from Jackey’s Marsh, south of Meander. The walk is rated "easy-medium" but due to the steep approach up Warner’s Track, should be considered more “medium” than easy! Not a long walk, roughly 4 km each way, but total gain of altitude is about 750 metres, so if you find the Zig-Zag track to the Basin challenging, this will be more so. The walk will suit reasonably fit walkers, including energetic children, who can cope with with steep alpine tracks. Because of the exposed alpine conditions, walkers must be fully prepared for poor weather, even in autumn. Please see the warnings below. (Weather forecast for Saturday is fine at this stage).

Meeting Times and Places:

The departure time is from Door of Hope car park in Launceston at 8 am. You can also meet the group at Deloraine (see “first meeting place” below) at 8:35 am. If you wish to meet with Phil at any other place, please arrange with him. Please be at any meeting place 5 minutes ahead of departure time. However, you still need to contact the walk leader per details above if intending to walk. The leader should be notified of any other people you intend to bring along.

To access this area from northern Tasmania:
From Launceston, head towards Deloraine on the Bass Highway (50 km) and take the first (eastern) turn from the highway into Deloraine. Continue into the town and turn left immediately before the bridge (meeting place – about 400 metres south of bridge – car park on right side – Rotary Park). From Deloraine, head south along the "Lake Highway" - now Highland Lakes Rd. (but the first bit may be called Meander Rd!). Make sure to stay on Meander Rd and go straight ahead (DON'T turn left) at 7 km from Deloraine, where there is a signposted junction for Highland Lakes Rd. Continue a further 8 km to the junction of East Meander Rd. (where the main road swings right about 1 km from Meander). Turn left into East Meander Rd, then after 400 metres, turn right (south) into Jackey’s Marsh Rd. A little over 5 km further on, go straight ahead into Sugarloaf Rd. and continue south about 2 km before turning left into Wiiteena Rd. The walk starts about 2.5 km further on.

S    Steep incline for at least part of the way
M    Marshy or muddy sections – be prepared to walk with wet feet.

Right-click on the file and “save target as” to a location of your choice. (Suggest you click the “Last modified” at top to sort by date to get the most recent at top to find the file for the next walk).

When you have downloaded the track file, double-clicking on the Google Earth (kml) track should open Google Earth and zoom in to the location if you have Google Earth installed on your computer. The .gpx version of the track should import into mapping software or devices that support gpx tracks and waypoints.
