Champagne and Bridal Veil Falls

Champagne and Bridal Veil Falls - Sat. 10th August 2019

These two beautiful sets of falls are located in state forest off the Cradle Mountain Road near an area known as Daisy Dell. They are accessed from Lemonthyme Wilderness Retreat on Dolcoath Road.
Walk route:
The walk starts at Lemonthyme Lodge. We will begin walking up a road that climbs about 130m over one kilometre to reach a lookout after about 30 mins. This gives us some nice views if the weather is clear. From there we walk another 500m up the road, climbing a further 50m in the process. We then head down the track to reach Champagne Falls after about another 30 mins, losing about 100m altitude. This part of the track is steep in places and may be wet and slippery. From there we walk along the valley floor for another hour or so following Bull Creek upstream and gradually climbing about 70m until we reach Bridal Veil Falls. We will have lunch there and enjoy the beautiful falls for as long as the weather allows. Then we climb back up to the road, gaining about another 30m, and walk back to the lodge taking about an hour. Once there we will enjoy some coffee or tea and refreshments provided by the lodge in their dining area. There will be a charge for this - user pays! This walk is rated as easy to medium and would be suitable for agile children and teenagers.

Meeting Times and Places:
If you are interested in going on this walk, please phone your walk leader, Basil Tkaczuk, ph. 6331 1155 (or reply to the reminder email) to book in. The departure time is 8:30 am from the Door of Hope Church car park, Launceston. Suggested meeting places if coming from elsewhere could be Sheffield at Claude Rd. turnoff at 9:20 am or Moina at 9:50 am, or proceed direct to Lemonthyme Lodge if you know the way. If you would like to arrange to meet the group at these places or elsewhere, please arrange with the leader, and please be at any meeting place 5 minutes ahead of the listed time. The leader must be notified of any other people you intend to bring along.

To access this area from northern Tasmania: Roads to Cradle Mt. are well signposted, and the area can be accessed from several directions. From Sheffield, go south along Claude Rd through Gowrie Park and westward down into the Forth Valley (now Cethana Rd.), continuing up the other side to Moina. Turn south into Cradle Mt. Rd. After just under 2 km, turn left into Dulcoath Rd. Follow this rather winding dirt road for just under 7 km to reach Lemonthyme Lodge.

Walkers are advised to wear strong shoes or boots. Gaiters recommended due to the possibility of wet or muddy conditions.
