Heritage Forest is our first Sunday walk for the year for all ages, and especially for families. This multi-use trail winds around the urban forest in a loop that is about 2.4 km, which takes on average 30 minutes to complete. However, with a stop at the park for the kids to play and a chance to explore the Tasmanian Native Plant Garden and the Community Garden we will leisurely make our way around with plenty of opportunity to chat. Dogs on leads are also welcome.
Walking Route:
After parking in the car park off Conway St, we will gather at Hoo Hoo Haven next to the public playground. We will then head east in a clockwise direction around the loop. After 200m we will head north to Caswell St, walking less than 100m up the street to the Tasmanian Native Plant Garden. After exploring that area, we will return to the loop by Caswell St. As we re-join the circuit, we will walk another 200m to the community garden and check on the plants growing there, again re-joining the loop heading south-west this time, travelling around the boundary of the forest for the remaining 2km back to the starting area and public park.
In total we are allocating 2 hours to complete the circuit with stops along the way. This walk is rated easy, and entirely on well-maintained tracks so prams, wheelchairs and walkers are welcome on this walk. Please bring a bottle of water for the walk. Public toilets are located next to the playground.

Unlike the regular Boots N’ All walks which often visit more challenging wilderness areas, there is no particular need to register in advance for these Sunday afternoon Family Fun Walks. Your walk reader would nevertheless appreciate if you could let him know you are coming, so that the walk doesn’t set off without you.
To access this area from northern Tasmania:
From Launceston, proceed via the East Tamar Hwy turning right at the large round about on to the Mowbray Link/Invermay Rd. Stay in the right lane, as you pass the lights there. Conway st is the next right. Alternatively, you can continue in the right lane and as you reach the top of the hill, turn right on to Vermont Rd. A short distance along Vermont Rd, after the roundabout, take the next right onto Murray St. At the end of Murray St turn left onto Conway St, the car park is on the right. Those familiar with Launceston will no doubt be aware of other ways to get there.
Other Information:
These Sunday afternoon walks do not require the level of preparation and equipment needed for wilderness walks. Dress comfortably and sensibly, and remember that even over a 2 hour period, weather can be changeable in northern Tasmania, so it’s always a great idea to have a warm top and a raincoat in your backpack, along with a drink and perhaps a snack.
Yes, we know… Parents of very young children often have to carry a lot more, including children in backpacks! Hopefully your fellow walkers will offer to share the burden!
